Deferred from military service, Chinaski travels from city to city, moving listlessly from one odd job to another, always needing money but never badly enough to keep a job.
His day-to-day existence spirals into an endless litany of pathetic whores, sordid rooms, dreary embraces, and drunken brawls, as he makes his bitter, brilliant way from one drink to the next. Charles Bukowski's posthumous legend continues to grow. As he describes his efforts to control his company's burn rate - the amount of money the company consumes in excess of its income - Wolff offers a no-holds-barred portrait of unaccountable successes and major disasters, including the story behind Wired magazine and its fanatical founder, Louis Rossetto; the rise of America Online, perhaps the most dysfunctional successful company in history, and the humiliating inability of people such as Bill Gates to untangle the intricacies of the Web. View: 5047The representation theory of the symmetric group, of Chevalley groups particularly in positive characteristic and of Lie algebraic systems, has undergone some remarkable developments in recent years. Many techniques are inspired by the great works of Issai Schur who passed away some 60 years ago. This volume is dedicated to his memory. This is a unified presentation consisting of an extended biography of Schur-written in collaboration with some of his former students-as well as survey articles on Schur's legacy (Schur theory, functions, etc). Additionally, there are articles covering the areas of orbits, crystals and representation theory, with special emphasis on canonical bases and their crystal limits, and on the geometric approach linking orbits to representations and Hecke algebra techniques.
Extensions of representation theory to mathematical physics and geometry will also be presented. Contributors: Biography: W. Ledermann, B. Neumann, P.M. Abelin- Schur; Review of work: H.
